Take some time to look through the different blog posts and remember your time in year 4.
Goodbye Mr Spick and thank you.
Here are some words the children think best describe you...
a gentleman, a helper, funny, peaceful and respected.
Thank you Year 4, you have been fun, enthusiastic, interested in English and a pleasure to teach!
You are ready for a holiday but keep checking the blog to prevent the 'Summer Slide'.

17th Century England Research Project

Following our work done on 'The Great Fire of London' and 'The Gunpowder Plot', year 4 have been asked to prepare and produce a history presentation on 17th Century England.
They may produce a poster, a speech, a book, some drama, a model, a history lesson but it should be a group presentation where everybody has participated and worked together.

Here are some useful websites to help with the research:

3D Shapes

Year 4 had a lot of fun making some 17th century houses for a 'Great Fire of London' display. We had to design, measure, and make a net for a cube and a square based pyramid/rectangular prism. We copied some geometrical patterns to make the houses look realistic and even drew on thatched roofs.

The blog has been updated each time we researched The Great Fire of London.

Year 4 have begun a new history topic, 'The Great Fire of London'. Click here to watch a short programme about it: The Great Fire of London

The fire started on 2nd September 1666 at 2am in a baker's shop in Pudding Lane.
A plaque at the site where the fire began.
The fire spread quickly and we have researched into some of the reasons why. Click here to find out more. Why did the fire spread so quickly?

The fire lasted for 4 days and the events where recorded in a diary by Samuel Pepys who was a friend and advisor to King Charles II. Click here to read more about Samuel Pepys and The Great Fire of London. Samuel Pepys and his diary.

 You use me to measure.
What am I?

2. Plants use me and people breathe me out.
 What am I?

3. You can watch movies on me.
You need a remote to control me.
What am I?

4. I am in the sky and rain falls from me.
What am I?

You cannot drink me.

Mixed up Materials

This week Year 4 had to solve a scientific problem. Ten mysterious substances had lost their labels so they had to work together as a team of scientists to work out if they were solid or liquid and try to discover what the substances could be.

Dinosaur Project

We are beginning a very exciting topic which will last until September break.

Year 4 will be working in pairs to produce a book about dinosaurs to give to the children in Kindergarten who will be starting their work on Dinosaurs next week.  It is linked with what we are learning about non-fiction texts. Each book must contain the following information and should take into account the fact that the books will be used by 5 year olds.

Every book should include the following:

  • Contents page and index (see below for more information)
  • Plant-eating dinosaurs.
  • The Tyrannosaurus Rex family.
  • Armoured dinosaurs
  • The Death of Dinosaurs.

We are looking forward to making the books and sharing them with the younger children.

How to do a Contents page:
1. order your pages and number them neatly.
2. write down the name of each chapter and write the page number next to it.
3. the contents page always goes at the front of the book.

How to do an Index page:
1. choose one or two words from each page that you think the 5 year olds may not understand.
2. list them in alphabetical order.
3. you may choose to write a brief definition of the word.
4. write down the page the word appears on.
5. the index page always goes at the back.
